Editor's Verdict:

TigerCinema is your one stop shop for the whole cornucopia of Asian Cinema and television - Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Taiwanese, Vietnamese and Hong Kong, its all here. 95% of these movies also have English subtitles so anyone can enjoy them (unless you think making up the plot to match the visuals is part of the fun). If you like to mix and match East and West, TigerCinema also stocks some Western Movies, though not a massive selection.

The website is slick and nicely put together with a clear layout and a smart logo, offering all the reviews and advice you need to start choosing the movies you want to see. There is a wide, almost bewildering, choice of different membership plans available. These are made slightly complicated by TigerCinema's policy of differentiating on the basis of whether you are are renting a movie or a TV series (something other companies handle by either counting each disc of a DVD box set as one rental and sending them out one at a time or simply counting a whole box set as one rental). All the packages are capped in terms of how many rentals you are allowed each month, but the monthly limits are quite generous so in most cases so they probably won't make much practical difference. Overall value is quite competitive, particularly for a specialized product that may have had to be shipped a long way. There is a free 10 day trial available on the "1 DVD at a time" package, which is better than no trial at all, but almost counterproductive in that its existence draws attention to the fact that there aren't free trials for the other 9 packages. It's also shorter than most free trials too.

Much like other DVD rental sites listed in this category, TigerCinema allows you to create a list of DVDs you want, after which however many your package allows you to have at once are sent to you by post. When you're done watching them, you just pop them in the pre-paid return envelope. As soon as they receive your returned DVDs they'll mail you the next batch of DVDs from your list. Because the speed of the US Mail service cannot always be relied upon, TigerCinema runs a clever “Advanced Shipping ” system through which you let them know, via the website, when you’ve mailed their DVDs back to them so they can get the next batch in the mail to you without having to wait for the returning DVDs to arrive. Shipping generally takes 1-3 days if you live on the West Coast or 2-4 days elsewhere in the country, as TigerCinema is based in San Jose, California.

In case you can't wait that long, TigerCinema is now one of the few online rental companies that also offers video steaming, via its TIgerstream service, so you can download and watch whole movies right away on your PC fairly cheaply (although this isn't included in the overall membership price as it is with some companies).

All-in-all, TigerCinema offers a pretty much unmatched selection of Asian television and cinema at a competitive price.
