Editor's Verdict: The website is neat enough but lacks an obvious FAQ or "How IT Works" page, instead offering four tiny pop-up boxes that answer your most obvious questions in a rather sketchy way. It's difficult to even search their inventory without signing up (or proving that you're over 18), which makes it hard to get an idea of how good their stock is. Sure, you can search by genre and A-Z, but for some reason the A to Z pages are accessed by clicking on numbers rather than letters, which makes little sense. In short, the organisation of the website could do with a little re-thinking. This is essentially a pay-as-you-go service, with each title costing between $2 and $4 depending on popularity etc. Unlike many of the market leaders it doesn't automatically charge you on a monthly basis so there is no long-term commitment or contract involved. A possible downside is that rather than being able to keep DVDs for as long as you like each rental comes with a set return date. The exception to this is their "Double Feature Club" which, for $39.99 per year (paid in a lump sum and non-refundable), allows you to keep up to 4 DVDs out for as long as you like, although you still have to pay for them each individually - the forty bucks covers the upgrade rather than the rentals themselves. This seems an odd way of doing things as most rental services offer this as standard. Having said that, the general value on offer is pretty good, though not exceptional, and there is no introductory offer as such (though every 10th rental is free). Shipping of DVDs generally takes 2-4 days, although this varies depending on your location; it may take longer if you live on the West Coast or way out in the country. Also, DVD Overnight does not ship to Alaska or Hawaii. Nevertheless, if you think that signing up to a monthly subscription service means surrendering your free will and selling out to the oppressive, soul-sucking politico-industrial power complex (which probably assassinated the Kennedy's, faked the moon landings and wants to take away your right to bear arms), then DVD Overnight might be the site for you (plus, they have PORN!).
